You all know that I am a bird nerd. I like to watch birds. No…not all bird watchers are 60 and have cats. It’s a newfound hobby that I can’t get enough. It’s so peaceful for me and it makes me want to read and learn. I like a hobby that makes me want to do those things!
Birding USUALLY is enjoyable and peaceful…until something happens. I don’t like or enjoy the ugly, yet very necessary side of nature. It’s hard for me to separate my love of all wildlife and mother nature. Anyway, today, while decompressing from school, I checked out the ol’ eaglecam (which got me started in this new hobby/journey) and this is what I saw. HOLY EAGLE ALTERCATION! My heart was beating so fast and I was anxious. What the…was that….holy balls. Let me break it down.
This is the Decorah Eagle nest in Iowa, a couple of hours North from where I grew up. These eagles have fledged 100% of their eaglets, meaning they have all left the nest. They are mates for life! Isn’t that awesome?! I think so! I have spent WAY too many hours watching them. Today, an intruder came to the nest. Eagles will defend their nest and young to death. They are very territorial during the nesting season, which is upon us. The intruder does a ‘fly by’ of the nest and returns to Dad Eagle’s fight. The eagle pair have not returned to the nest since this happened today….guess what my weekend entails. Ahhhhhh!
My job demands that I wear many hats. Teacher, mom (ish), friend, disciplinarian, circus clown…you know…whatever it takes. It’s a dance partay everyday in Camp Hamm. This is what happens when you leave me, Mrs. Hamm – a grown woman and a teacher of your children, in costume room full of wigs and hats with a friend and a camera. WAY too many laughs. WAY too much fun. Great ending to a mediocre day.
So…have you ever been exhausted for no reason? Like, go to bed at 7:00 pm and sleep until 7:15 am, kind of tired? Well…that’s what I was am. The aforementioned times were my bed times yesterday, hence, no post. Sorry. I’ll do betta.
This picture brought me joy today. This relates to so many aspects of life for me, right now…and is always a good reminder when life gets busy and bombs get dropped! Choose life! Everywhere. Have compassion! Always. Be a friend. Oh…and…Dogs rule! 🙂
I have a TON of pictures…but having trouble getting them to my computer…I’m feeling sick from the adreline dump and the fact that it’s 11:00 and I have to work tomorrow. So…more pics to come later…but for now…Roll DAMN Tide.
Look who showed up today! A Northern Shoveler. At first I thought it was a gal, but after some research, his yellow eye (which I could easily see with my new spotting scope, although the pictures don’t show it) indicates this is a young male with his winter plumage. Oh, and the Great Blue Heron paid a visit too! How fun for me! 🙂 Have a good week erebody!
Ok world. Since the Blowout, Jason and I have committed ourselves to lose some fat. Yeah. I said fat. Fat is weight and fat is what blew out my poor jeans. Side note…you wanna know what’s weird? Even after a blowout…it’s still hard for me to throw away jeans. I don’t know why…jeans are just hard for me to get rid of. Not much else is though; I throw everything away…just not jeans. Huh!? Anyway, we are cutting our calories and workin’ the smell out. Hence the ‘fuzziness’ from the other day. Cutting cals for the ol’ Hammslice = fuzziness + crabbiness. Ugh…it’s so hard. So far I’m down 6. I’ll keep you posted. This was my workout today. Disgustingly hard for me, but feels good when I’m done. Hoping it gets betta soon.
**You will never see a picture of me working out. Unless you want your eyeballs to burn and scream for help. 🙂
If you know me…you know that I like to be neat and organized. There is something about the combination of order and neatness and the colors of a classroom that brings me joy (and sanity). Here are a few shots of around my classroom today that made me smile!
